often. So now, Morgan’s cake is the last one for the month of May!
Esther tells me that she has trouble remembering names and faces, but cakes are easy. Morgan’s sister had lilies but this cake will have roses; hot pink and softer pink with touches of blue snuck in with the filler flowers. I have learned that it is almost impossible to get sugar roses to behave like real roses; you can’t squish them together…you get spaces between the petals so Esther uses these dainty, delicate flowers that’s name I cannot quite recall to make use of the gaps.
In case you have never been to one of Esther’s consultations, when you enter, if you’ve already done the tasting, everyone circles a round table with piles of books and magazines and portfolios and its like magic happens. Sometimes brides come in with photos like Morgan did. And they find their ideas in the craziest of places! Greg’s mama found a brochure in HEB that had a simple groom’s cake with little tuxedo strawberries. They were a really great idea for a simpler cake; Esther will be spiffing them up a little to make sure the groom strawberry really stands out from his 6 groomsmen.
Flowers are Esther’s thing. She gets excited about them so the roses running up and down Morgan’s cake will be great. She’s sketching up the design and the strawberry men to make sure Greg and Morgan get exactly what they want, colors and all.
One of the most interesting parts of the consultation was waiting to see how much the groom would pipe in. Of course the ones that want stadiums and airplanes are interested but the simpler ones sometimes keep quiet while the brides go crazy over the number of pearls around the base or some other minute detail. Greg piped up every now and then when he had a good point like shinier pearls and what color coats to dress the strawberries but he would quickly concede if opposed with a sheepish grin.
I’m glad Esther has completed her consultations for May because its going to be a busy month!
